Niluka’s wish for people who help - “Keep up the good work!”

Because of the compassion in action of supporters helping families lift themselves out of poverty, Niluka’s dreams for her family were only postponed when Suranga, her husband, passed away.

At 35 years old, Niluka is now the sole breadwinner for her family of four children. And while much has changed, the steadfast support she is receiving so she can rebuild her life, and equally importantly, build the better life she and Suranga dreamed of, remains alive.

As the sole breadwinner, Niluka is doing everything she can to provide for her children and improve the modest two room clay-walled house they call home. Missing Suranga, but undaunted, Niluka started a small boutique business to generate the income needed to improve living conditions for her children. Today, Niluka’s boutique generates about $200 CAD per month. In addition to running her boutique, Niluka often seeks out other work to supplement her family’s income while she grows her business.

As Niluka considers all that she has been able to accomplish for her family, her heart is full of gratitude for the help she has received and she has a message for people who put their compassion into action.

“I wish that all those who lend a hand to uplift people like me have the strength and courage to continue their good work,” says Niluka.
