People always come first. Working from a community-driven model, while being resourceful and compassionate, the focus is on clean water, food security and livelihoods that unlock opportunities. Responsive, sustainable and self-reliant. These are the principles we live by.
Country and People Centric
For people facing extreme poverty around the world, HOPE upholds the ability of community members to identify their needs and articulate solutions. Families know how to address the barriers to their success, but also how to nurture the possibility and opportunity around them. Our job is to come alongside, to support, to empower, to equip.
Water: at the centre
HOPE has a saying: water is life. It’s true for family after family, community after community. It’s the starting point, the foundation, the centre. Without water, food security and livelihoods aren’t as impactful, if even possible. Education and health care – critical needs – still don’t eclipse the fundamental need for accessible, clean water.
Sustainable Development
No one wants to rely on someone else to meet their needs. HOPE’s view of sustainable development is to work with communities by offering resources and strategies to help people solve the problems facing them.
Theory of Change
PEOPLE FIRST
Grassroots partners and community members build connections. People and relationships guide what, where, why, who and how activities take place.
COMMUNITY-LED
Needs are identified and prioritized. The starting point tends to be clean water, latrines and hygiene, all of which improve health and free up time for other activities such as food production and livelihoods.
GENDER INCLUSIVE
Women form an integral part of community-based solutions. Diverse voices and ideas are crucial to inform sustainable, resilient approaches to eliminate extreme poverty within a community.
FOSTERING RESILIENCE
Working with communities to support sustainable solutions, which strengthens a community’s fabric: health, food security, education and livelihoods unlock opportunity and unleash transformation.
