IMPACT REPORT 2022
A MESSAGE FROM KIM SAVAGE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Resilience, better days and HOPE
In 2022 it would have been easy to be discouraged – the numerous global conflicts and instability, double-digit inflation plaguing so many countries and a pervasive sense that it was just too much… BUT, in 2022 we were literally able to BE HOPE in some very difficult places. More than 1 million people this year saw hope come alive through your compassion and action.
Together we nurtured opportunities, possibilities and sustainable, real change that meant clean water, improved nutrition and income potential for people. That is something to celebrate. Thank you for helping. Thank you for making life better for someone you may never have chance to meet.
What you do matters.
Kim Savage

CLEAN WATER & HEALTH SUPPORTS
Tackling two of the biggest challenges people face
CLEAN WATER CREATES OPPORTUNITIES
For mothers, Angelina and Juana, the better days they’ve dreamed of all their lives began with the turn of a tap. Gone are the days of carrying 7,000kgs of water on their backs every year. After months of community-led construction, clean water flows from water taps in every household in Xepol, a remote community of 480 people in the mountains of Guatemala. “We’re not suffering anymore, and my children can stay in school rather than walk with me to collect water from a dirty river,” says Angelina, proud of what her community has accomplished.
“I am happy because our water has arrived. It gives us life.”
Juana, Guatemala
HEALTH SUPPORTS PROMOTE HEALING AND HOPE
People in Honduras and Haiti are building a brighter future with health supports accessed at hospitals, rural clinics and mobile health units. Medical supplies, medicines like diabetes and high blood pressure medications, over-the-counter treatments and essential equipment enable medical teams to deliver a timely diagnosis and care to families facing very challenging circumstances.
THE CORE
GOOD HEALTH: GOOD LIFE
Clean water, hygiene training, and sanitation systems enable people to become and stay healthy. Health supports like medicines, essential supplies and equipment support people’s health in communities where healthcare systems are lacking.

Growing hope & health
FOOD SECURITY CREATES STABILITY
Families in a number of provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo are eating well every day as they build sustainable, resilient lives through fish farming. Their efforts are supported by an extensive network of land-based Tilapia fish fingerling production centres managed by local communities. Fish farmers are using tools, training, support, and local access to improved fish fingerlings to increase the output of their ponds and the nutritional value of the fish. The environmentally friendly, reliable source of protein provided by Tilapia helps keep families healthy. Also, it generates a reliable income as families sell fish at local markets. The income is used to improve life, create new opportunities and buy additional varieties of nutritious food not grown on their home garden plots. Other important aspects of family life are supported as well, including children in school and buying essentials like medicine and clothing.
“Fishponds made it possible to build a sturdy house and for our children to finish school.”
Giles, DR Congo
THE CORE
RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT: RESILIENT PEOPLE
For people to be resilient, the environment they depend on for life and livelihood must also be resilient. In addition to addressing food security and nutrition challenges accompanying poverty, our projects help people improve and sustain their environment.

LIVELIHOOD & LEARNING
There’s nothing small about a small business
POVERTY IS NO MATCH FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS
Women like Nadeeka don’t let extreme poverty define them. They see over the walls poverty puts before them to the better days they will create. Nadeeka joined a self-help group in her community in Sri Lanka and used the support, training and livelihood to start a business that continues to transform her family today. “My income is reliable and growing. I can meet all my family’s needs, including lifesaving medicine for my youngest son and education for my older children,” says Nadeeka.
“So much has changed since I bought the little sewing machine that helped me start my business. There’s no more poverty food - we eat three healthy meals every day!”
Nadeeka, Sri Lanka
EDUCATION CREATES A PATH OUT OF POVERTY
Nothing frees a child’s mind from poverty like the confidence and knowledge an education provides. Every year a child is in school significantly increases their ability to overcome poverty as an adult and pursue opportunities.
THE CORE
EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITIES: SUCCESS
Gender equity ensures women have access to support and livelihood skills training to create opportunities to step out of poverty and stay out of poverty. Access to education enables children and youth to learn their way toward their dreams.

Resourcing our mission in 2022
Accountable stewardship is important because the people we help together are the priority
People facing extreme poverty and the resources invested overseas is HOPE’s most important effort. While we needed to increase our education efforts here in Canada to expand our supporter base, we held fast to keeping our combined administration and fundraising costs below 10%.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) & HOPE
SDGs are an international blueprint for dignity, peace and prosperity for all people and the planet. Focused on global targets, SDG’s offer important context to HOPE projects and demonstrate community impact as we work in the hardest to reach locations around the world.
